2023 Saturday (Winter) Training Camps

Prior to the beginning of the Winter Training Camp, players, coaches and management paused for a minute to remember and pay tribute to John Firth—who, until his untimely passing, was one of the Leading Edge’s founding directors.  As much as it was a sad moment to think about and reflect upon, the vision and dream that John originally had for the Leading Edge, was again reignited—there most definitely remains a firm commitment to pursue and live the legacy that John has left behind.

The coaches were tasked with putting the new cohort of players through their paces. It remains a proud moment when seeing the players having so much enjoyment during training. Regrettably, some players could not attend the initial workshop, owing to a variety of reasons.

The first two training camps (hosted on successive Saturdays) was a huge success with all players having the opportunity to bat and/or bowl.

During the sessions, players were also challenged with a few essential life-skills: ‘how to be a success’ being the primary theme and sub-components that focused on—skills, work-rate and attitude.

The Leading Edge Foundation aims to provide quality cricket coaching and training to young players and coaches from disadvantaged communities in the Western Cape. Along with developing their cricket skills we also aim to provide them with, EDUCATIONAL and LIFE SKILLS DEVELOPMENT, thus giving these young players and coaches the opportunity to develop holistically, contributing to developing a well-rounded individual to the community. 

Children aged between 11-12 years are scouted from schools in the Helderberg area.  Players must be from an underprivileged background male, or female. Opportunities will be created for these players to showcase their skills in tournaments and festivals, competing with some of the best players in their age group. 

The Leading Edge coaches and management team look forward to more of these sessions to be hosted during the Winter season.
